Here is my selection for Valentine’s Day. Breguet symbolizes elegance and tells a story. Each watch is iconic. Today I present to you the Breguet Reine de Naples watch.

Queen of Naples 8928 Valentine’s Day Edition Breguet dresses the iconic Queen of Naples with poetic references for a limited edition of 28 pieces.

This new interpretation from Maison Breguet is an ode to love thanks to the subtle touches of red adorning its entire white mother-of-pearl dial. Indeed, the flange of this one has 66 hand-set rubies, enhanced by a bezel paved with a myriad of diamonds as well as a crown fitted with a ruby ​​cabochon. Discreet red hearts mark the off-center chapter ring while the hands continue their race of passion, in perfect harmony with the alligator strap. Finally, hand-set diamonds illuminate the clasp as well as the folding clasp.

A Queen’s Watch

During her reign over Naples, Caroline Murat, younger sister of Napoleon Bonaparte, widely supported the arts, and acquired more than thirty Breguet watches and clocks. While the ladies of the time wore watches as necklaces, Caroline Murat placed a bold and avant-garde order with Abraham-Louis Breguet. She actually wants a timepiece that she could wear on her wrist.

The year is 1810 and Abraham-Louis Breguet begins the creation of this unique piece: the first wristwatch in the world. Imagined by a woman, created by a man… From its delivery in 1812 to its repairs in 1849 then 1855, the Breguet archives trace the history as well as the characteristics of this watch, which has now disappeared. Of great finesse, this oblong-shaped creation with a guilloché silver dial included several complications: a minute repeater, a moon phase, as well as a thermometer. Finally, a braided hair bracelet garnished with gold thread allowed it to be worn around the wrist.

Movement

At the heart of its 33 x 24.95 mm ovoid box, 180 components make the heart of the self-winding movement 586/1. The latter offers a power reserve of 38 hours as well as a frequency of 3 hertz. This mechanism is equipped with a hairspring in silicon.

The properties of silicon are multiple: in addition to being resistant to corrosion as well as wear, it is insensitive to the influence of magnetic fields, improving the precision of the timepiece. The caliber components are finalized with care by hand, according to the Breguet tradition, whether they are visible or invisible to the eye. The sapphire back of the white gold case reveals its platinum mass as well as the Côtes de Genève decorations and beveling present on the movement.
